Typhoon Odette (RAI) Hits KALIPAY

On what seemed to be the longest night in recent memory, our KALIPAY home, Recovered Treasures, in Bago City was battered by Typhoon Odette (RAI) last Thursday evening, Dec. 16, up to the early hours of Friday, Dec. 17, 2021.

Fierce winds and rain uprooted a lot of trees and ripped parts of the roof. Thankfully, the children and staff living in the shelter are all safe, albeit a little shaken. Most of the small children have never experienced a storm as strong as this. They all stayed together and held a prayer vigil that night.

While we have a lot of cleaning and repairs ahead of us, we remain thankful that nobody in the home got hurt. We are hopeful that in time, we can recover and put this behind us.

Thank you to everyone who checked in on us, to those people who sent prayers of protection our way, and to the Home Parents and Grounds Staff who stood watch all night to keep the children safe.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all the other families whose homes were destroyed by the typhoon. It pains us to think of the devastation just days before Christmas. May we all embody the true spirit of the season- love and selflessness. May God bless us all.
