This exposes children-at-risk to dangers, such as being run over by vehicles and other health hazards. Sadly, some of these kids use the money they get to buy solvents and rugby. We understand that it is very hard to ignore a child that is asking money especially when they look worn down and hungry but there are other ways you can help than by giving them what they ask for. Instead of giving alms, we encourage the public to rescue, refer or report these children to authorities so they can be properly attended to.
You may contact Department of Social Services and Development of Bacolod City – Anti Mendicancy Group or Kalipay through this page. You may also donate to organizations that work directly with children on the streets. Recovered Treasures, our Kalipay Home, offers rescued street children who need temporary shelter access to health services, education, counseling, recreation activities, life skill workshop and livelihood training. By giving to street kids we are keeping them poor for the rest of their lives. This also means that they are more vulnerable to criminal organizations on the streets. By giving money to children on the streets, we are often funding people that are forcing those kids to beg in the first place.
Please share this advocacy to your family, friends and everybody in our community. It is only when we do this together that we can finally make sure that NO CHILD is left on the streets.
