Earlier today, the children of the Kalipay Learning Center celebrated Araw ng Wika, with the theme Tangkilikin, Ipalaganap at Mahalin (Enjoy, Spread, and Love the Filipino Language). With their Home Parents as their audience, the day started with a small parade within the compound from the school to the Home. The children were dressed in their Filipiniana attire. Their morning was filled with cultural performances of song and dance numbers, followed by a Filipino lunch served in banana leaves in keeping with the theme. The afternoon was spent playing traditional Filipino games.
Kudos to the teachers who prepared and facilitated the activities, the Kalipay teens who helped sew the costumes and set up the stage, and to the Home Parents who supported the preparations. Special thanks to a generous sponsor who provided the food and prizes. Today was definitely something the children will remember!
The school, Kalipay Learning Center, is located inside the Recovered Treasures compound; the teachers are also living within the grounds- allowing the children to attend classes face to face. Visitors are not allowed to enter the Home for health and safety reasons.
