The humble chicken egg may be ubiquitous for many, but for KALIPAY it is a boon. For years the children have enjoyed eggs as part of their daily menu, however, inexpensive eggs may seem to be, the expense is compounded as we have approximately a hundred children to feed at Recovered Treasures Home at any given time.
The installation of a small chicken farm on the grounds of the shelter has been a dream of ours for the longest time. Thankfully, several kind-hearted people finally made it happen. Now the KALIPAY children get to enjoy fresh eggs, gathered daily in their own backyard. The kids are also excited to care and feed the chickens, with harvest-time being the highlight of their day.
We are so happy to find that on the very day the chickens arrived, the children were already able to harvest 76 eggs, which they immediately sent to the kitchen. What a promising start! We hope that in the coming days the chicken farm will be able to produce enough eggs to cover the Home’s needs.
