A Wedding in Kalipay

Last March 16, 2022, our resident agriculturist, Khort wed his partner Haren in a simple, yet heartfelt ceremony in KALIPAY’s Activity Center inside the Recovered Treasures Compound. The wedding was officiated by Rev. Fr. Julius Habana. The Home Parents and staff stood as the principal sponsors while the children were the groomsmen, bridesmaids, and flower girls. The rest of the children all worked together to decorate the venue, while the teachers handled hair and makeup for the ladies. For many of the KALIPAY children, this is their first time to witness and participate in a real, live wedding. It had been so long since they had all dressed in formal attire.

This activity is part of KALIPAY’s Spiritual Life Program, where the children are introduced to the significance of all the sacraments of the Catholic faith. As the children had already experienced firsthand Baptism and First Holy Communion, the Sacrament of Matrimony was suggested to have the children witness an actual wedding. It was so timely that Khort and Haren had begun making plans for getting married. Luckily, the couple agreed to have it in Recovered Treasures. It was a day the children truly enjoyed and will likely never forget.
