In the tapestry of life, some threads are woven with a brilliance that illuminates the entire fabric. Such was the case with Alyn, our beloved Kalipay child who left us far too soon at the tender age of 22
From the very beginning, it was evident that Alyn was no ordinary child. Alyn was gifted with intelligence and his pursuit for knowledge knew no bounds. He effortlessly excelled academically. He performed well in his tutorial classes and when he was introduced to formal education, remained at the top of his class and received countless awards every school year.
His brilliance was not confined in academics alone. Growing up, Alyn manifested his talent for the arts and it was nothing short of extraordinary. He had an eye for detail and breathe life into every mesmerizing design he created and was always open to criticism to improve. His interest in film gave everyone a peek into his unique perspective into the world.
But perhaps what made Alyn truly remarkable was not his intellect or artistic prowess but his heart. He had a kindness and compassion that knew no bounds, a generosity of spirit that touched the lives of everyone he encountered.
Alyn was 13 years old when he came to Kalipay in 2015 with his sister. He had stood as her primary caretaker while living in the streets before rescue despite being a child himself and made sure that she was clothed, fed, and kept from harm’s way when they had absolutely nothing. Five years later, Alyn also requested that his youngest sister, who had been under the care of a relative but could no longer provide her needs, join them in Kalipay to keep them all together. He was a loving and protective brother who kept the well-being of his sisters above all else. He was the best brother they could ask for. Even until his last breath, he had told his sister not to cry because he would overcome his struggle and all will be okay.
Alyn was a wonderful presence to have in our Kalipay Home. He would help out with chores and taking care of younger children. But his greatest contribution was encouraging others to read. Every wish list he wrote for Christmas, books would remain at the top of his list. He would devour page after page of novels and share his analysis with his peers. This in turn piqued their interests and Alyn was all too happy to lend his fellow beneficiaries his novels so that they might experience the same joy he did when he read it.
As we reflect on the life of Alyn, it is impossible not to feel a profound sense of loss. His passing has left a void that can’t be filled, a silence where his laughter once echoed. But let us not dwell on the tragedy of his departure but celebrate the incredible gift that was Alyn’s life.
Alyn was so loved by the many lives he’s touched on his short time on Earth. He had an uncanny ability to see the beauty in others, lift them up when they were down, and inspire others to be the best version of themselves. Alyn was a son, brother, friend, student, and peer and his memory will live on. Though he may be gone, his light will continue to shine, guiding us through darkness and reminding us of the boundless potential that exists within each of us.
He had dreams of being a fashion designer, graphic artist, film maker, and IT specialist. He received so much encouragement because we knew how this was within arm’s reach for him. So, as we look up to the sky and the world bleeds different colors when the sun sets, let us think of Alyn painting us a portrait to appreciate at the end of our day. Telling us that he is watching over us and will continue to as long as the sun rises and sets.
Rest in peace, dearest Alyn. Thank you for all the joy you brought to Kalipay. Your memory will forever be a beacon of inspiration and a reminder of the beauty and wonder that can be found in this world, even in the midst of sorrow.
