Cultivating a Culture of Agriculture in KALIPAY

KALIPAY’s shelter, Recovered Treasures sits right in the middle of lush farmland. It has always been our goal to maximize the use of this land. Aside from our humble vegetable garden, we have attempted several times to grow rice, monggo and other crops around the compound. However, without expert advice, our harvests have been inconsistent.

Now with Khort Sabroso, an Agriculturist joining the KALIPAY team, we are excited that our plans for making Recovered Treasures more sustainable are finally materializing. Plans for improving our fruit and vegetable garden to increase our yield and setting up a modest poultry and piggery farm will all help parry the costs of having to purchase our most basic food necessities, as feeding 103 children is no easy feat.

The Kalipay children are all excited at the prospect of helping out their Tito Khort in what we now refer to as the KALIPAY FARM. Beyond the practicality of this program, we hope to teach the children the many life lessons in agriculture- the importance of responsible and sustainable farming, the impact of mindless and careless consumption, and an appreciation for the land.
